DIY First Aid Kit

June 13, 2018

When you become a new parent your motto is “be prepared…for anything.” When Maddy was first born her diaper bag was stocked with essentials and every time I left the house I would run through a check-list of things I needed ( diapers, wipes, bottle, blanket, etc). As she got older, I relaxed and learned to only carry the essential and my diaper bag became half the size then a quarter of the size it once was.

Now I leave the house with a diaper, wipes, a snack and a dyi first aid kit.

Maddy had a small tumble at the park a couple of weeks ago and scraped her thumb (nothing some soap and water couldn’t make better).  But it made be realize that I wasn’t ready for any accidents, and with a toddler I know that these types of falls are inevitable. So in my true nerdy mom fashion I started doing research on First Aid kits and decided that a do-it-yourself kit was the way to go.

What’s in my First Aid Kit

Home & Vacation Kit

This is the First Aid box that I keep in my linen closet and it super east to grab when we go to the cottage, on road trips and other local holidays.  Everything fits neatly into a small container with a handle that I picked up at the dollar store.

  • Bandages – I have lots of colourful band-aids in different sizes and others with Maddy’s favourite characters on them (right now Paw Patrol or rather Puppies!).
  • Sterile Gauze Pads – for when band-aids won’t cut it.
  • Medical Tape – to secure the gauze pads.
  • Natural Wipes – in case I don’t have access to clean water to help clean scrapes.
  • Antibiotic Ointment – while I believe that soap and water is the best way to clean a scrape, I do trust antibiotic ointment to help with the healing process.
  • Calamine / Anti-Itch Lotion – mainly for bug bites or other skin reactions.
    • I have two options I use:
      • Aveeno Anti-Itch: which is a calamine based lotion
      • Benadryl: for allergic skin reaction.

All the cost online viagra of those purposes will be included to the MRP of the medicine. Things will go a lot smoother if you tell them that there is a chance levitra lowest price for them to sell at lower rates. Infertility in any of the partners cheapest cialis in australia may cause loss of intimacy and lead to negativity in their lives. With life getting in the way you can levitra free samples get all the beneficial nutrients without any of the fat present in the Acai berry.

  • Natural Based Bug Spray – DEET bug sprays are not recommended for young children and natural sprays can be hard to find, so I keep this natural bug spray in our first aid kit just in case (also I has the added bonus that is smells really good, thanks to the
  • Aloe Vera – to help with burns.
  • Coconut Oil – coconut oil has some antibacterial properties and while I would not recommend using it as antiseptic I do find it helpful to keep skin moisturized.

Such a smart idea. My boyfriend is a paramedic and has first aid kits stashed everywhere. He put one together for my car recently as well. We’ve had to use them while camping and without him, I wouldn’t have had the stuff on hand!

We always keep several of these things on hand. I really need to get a place to store them all in though. Right now things are sort of scattered between the kitchen and bathroom.

This is such a good post I think we often forget some of the basics we should have home in case the worst happens.

Great kits for any situation! Well planned… I also toss in some paper towel pills, they’re like compressed tabs that you dampen and get a rugged paper towel from when it expands!

Great idea! Making your own kit is so much cheaper than buying one! plus you get to put what you need in it and you dont end up with a bunch of unneeded stuff!

As a non-parent (haha), I keep a lot of these in my handbag. Bandages just came in handy today as my new sandals gave me blisters!

These are both great kits! I need to make a travel First Aid kit because I usually just throw different things in my purse or in my carry on. This definitely makes it more organized.

In addition to having pain reliever/fever reducer in ours, with very active boys and a tomboy I kept all kinds of band-aids and gauze dressings in mine.

This is such a good idea! First aid kits can get expensive or not have the best brands, this way you can personalize the items better for your child’s needs and preference. I’ll have to do something like this for my son. Thanks for sharing!

I like to keep first aid kits like this one around the house and in the car. I love being able to stock one up yourself because the ones you buy in the store can get expensive to purchase.
